Flirts with greatness, but never manages to get a date...

I have an older water filtration system, and have been unable to find "genuine" replacement filter cartridges. The Whirlpool filter fits fine, but it leaves a bit of an unpleasant taste in the water for several months. This has happened to me twice with these filters so I am pretty sure it's not just something gone south in the city water. The unfortunate taste goes away eventually, and then the water is fine again. For those who may wonder such things, I flushed the fresh cartridge out as they instructed before first use. Maybe next time I'll run twice as much water through and see if that makes a difference.
Can't understand what type of whole house filtration units accept this particular filter. Wish it fit mine.

Bought a lot of these from Lowes on-line, and they were evidently too long to seal. I have two Whirlpool whole house filtration units (WHKF-DWHV) that accept string wound filter WHKF-WHSW - but when I put the WHKF-GD05 filter in, the water leaks all over the place. Also, the O-rings WHKF-C6 that fit the unit are impossible to find..

We have heavy iron from our artesian well and use these filters. We go through a lot of them and buy ours at Lowes. When we buy six boxes of two each we get a contractor discount and they are only $11.59 per box.Filters work fine when fresh but are quickly overcome by our heavy iron. Looking into a better long term solution.
